AT&T Slam Dunk at NBA Crossover 2025
Client: AT&T / Wasserman
Studio: Hovercraft Studio
Role: TouchDesigner Developer / Creative Technologist
My Role
I was responsible for building the full system in TouchDesigner that controlled the experience, integrating hardware and logic into a seamless real-time workflow.
Sensor Fusion and Logic
Combined two Orbbec Femto Mega depth cameras to track participant motion across the space. I developed GLSL and Python tools to merge point clouds and detect when a participant stepped into key volumes — the start position, approach zone, dunk zone, and celebration zone.
Visual Effects and Environmental Integration
Built real-time effects that responded to participant actions, including a dunk-triggered ripple, photo flash overlays, and audio cues matched to each experience phase. Integrated four unique virtual court environments, rendered to feel grounded and present in camera captures.
Camera Triggering and Video Pipeline
Coordinated three camera feeds to capture the dunk moment, and handled the backend flow for generating a sharable video — from triggering the capture to signaling the rendering system and sending the final link to the participant via SMS.
Previsualization and Remote Workflow
Created a full-scale 3D previz environment in TouchDesigner for internal use. It simulated LED content, point cloud input, detection logic, camera framing, and human animation. This was crucial for remote collaboration, client signoff, and live debugging during the show.
System Integration and I/O
Connected all major systems, including LED walls, depth sensors, DMX lighting, audio playback, video capture, and API communication with the iPad interface used by brand ambassadors to manage each session.
